We are delighted to announce that Claybody Theatre has been offered 3 years’ funding within Arts Council England’s National Portfolio, beginning in April 2023. This means that we can now plan ahead for the first time and grow the work of the company – which is rooted in the communities and heritage of the city of Stoke-on-Trent.
We can work strategically with our partners in education, such as Stoke CEP, YMCA, Stoke 6th Form, City Learning Trust, and local primary schools and academies, to offer children and young people access to the arts and arts-based learning.

As an artist led company, we continue to be inspired by the people and the stories of the Potteries and North Staffordshire. We would like to thank all those communities and local people who have supported us over the past 10 years – participants, friends, and audiences. We also thank Stoke-on-Trent City Council for its continuing support, both financial and logistical. We are indebted to local media, such as BBC Radio Stoke and The Sentinel, for consistently helping us to reach audiences and participants for our work.

We are grateful for the many amazing artists and creatives who have worked with us and shared our journey. We especially acknowledge the contribution of Producer Helen Slevin to the success of our company and this NPO application. We look forward to working with you all, and many others, in the future.

Finally, we pay tribute to our committed, skilled, and knowledgeable Board, led by our Chair, Cath Ralph. We have absolute confidence in them to lead us in the coming years.
Joining the National Portfolio is a tremendous endorsement, and we thank Arts Council England for this opportunity, and for all the support they have given us over the past 9 years through project funding. We are mindful that many wonderful companies have not been successful in this NPO funding round, and we wish them all well as they go forward.

We congratulate our friends in 4 other organisations in North Staffordshire that have joined the National Portfolio with us, Frontline Dance, ReStoke, The Portland Inn Project, and Partners in Creative Learning; and we celebrate the success of the BCB, New Vic Theatre, and B-Arts in retaining their funding status. Together we will build a rich and diverse cultural ecology for local people and visitors to the area.

As Claybody Theatre enters its 10th Anniversary year, we are very excited about the future of arts and culture in Stoke and North Staffordshire, and incredibly proud to be a part of it all.
